Leda and the Swan.

This is a myth linked to the Swans, in one way or another is the overture to the stories I'm doing about the animal, all arose from a dream I had ... I told several close friends, well ... here let the myth.

Leda and the Swan.

Leda and the Swan.

The story of Leda and the Swan is one of the sexiest stories of Greek mythology that explains allegorically passions and human weaknesses.

Leda was the wife of Tyndareus, king of Laconia at Sparta, who had taken refuge in the kingdom of Thestius father of Leda, after being expelled from Lacedaemon. After marrying, and thanks to Hercules, Tyndareus regained his kingdom and took his seat beside his wife.

The most popular version of this myth is that Leda was a beautiful woman, as Zeus himself wanted it. One day while walking along the river Eurotas, he found a beautiful swan who escaped the attack of an eagle. Protected him and seduced by it, which was none other than Zeus transformed. That same night Leda union also her husband. As a result, put two eggs: one born Pollux and Helen, immortal children of Zeus, the other Castor and Clytemnestra, children Tyndareus fatal.

Another version tells that the goddess Nemesis was pursued by Zeus and turned into different animals to escape. Zeus imitated until she finally became a goose and he raped her as a swan. By this union laid an egg left in a swamp and was later found by Leda. Finally, it says, transformed into a swan and pretending to be in danger, Zeus took refuge in the bosom of Nemesis and then raped her. The god Hermes was responsible for putting the egg in Leda's thighs to give it birth.

The most accepted version is the first, and most have represented artists from antiquity until today. Leda's children were the protagonists of great myths and legends. Castor and Pollux, Castor and Pollux were famous heroes and its own constellation Gemini, which represents these twins. Helena, the most Earth woman, was the suspected cause of the ruin of Troy and Clytemnestra who finished most famous victim of matricide in Western culture, Electra and Orestes.

This is a beautiful swan that touches my soul. And it has been a source of inspiration for many of my works.
